Your Potential Lives and Dies by How You Invest T.E.A.M.S.

If you end up broke, homeless, or a billionaire...it’ll come down to five things.
Time. Energy. Attention. Money. Soul.
I call it T.E.A.M.S. because these are the five resources you invest every day whether you realize it or not. How you use them? That’s your trajectory.
This isn’t theory. It’s the truth most people ignore while they scroll, snack, spend, and spiral.
Let’s break it down…
Time: You Get 1,000 Minutes a Day
That’s how many waking minutes you have on average every day.
1,000.
So how do you spend them?
If you don’t know (and I talk to thousands of people a year about this and I can safely say most of you don't know) that’s the problem.
Think about this...when someone you haven't seen in a while asks how you're doing, how often is your natural response include the word "busy"?
We've glorified that damn word too much. We say it because we think that's what we are supposed to be. We think it means we are doing important stuff. We also say it because its true in all the wrong ways.
You’re not “too busy.” You’re distracted. You’re bleeding minutes without realizing how lethal it is.
The wealthy guard their time like a dragon guards gold. They schedule deep work. Block off priorities. Say no. Delegate lower impact tasks. Ruthlessly. Endlessly.
You have 1,000 minutes every day to invest in your future or waste on someone else’s agenda.
Example: If you work 8 hours and spend 3 hours on Netflix and social media, you have 340 minutes left. What did you do with them? Did they move you closer to your goals or just help you feel busy?
Energy: Your Fuel Tank is Finite
Your energy is your battery. It’s physical. It’s biological. It’s driven by your sleep, food, and how you move your body. And just like the nature of all batteries, they lose their efficiency the older they get.
But most people don't care about their energy and use drugs like caffeine and nicotine to bandaid a solution.
They eat garbage. Sleep like crap. Skip workouts. Then wonder around cluelessly why they’re unmotivated and burnt out. Actually, that's not true in most situations. They don't wonder, they already know. They just find ways to stay busy and distracted so they don't have to face the consequences of their actions.
Truth is, your brain doesn’t care about your calendar if your body is wrecked. And energy mismanagement is why you never get to that “next level.”
Example: You drink 3 cups of coffee, skip lunch, eat a giant dinner, then crash on the couch. That’s not recharging. That’s numbing. Try hydrating, walking 30 minutes, doing 30 pushups and tracking how your body actually feels after meals. Your body’s telling you something. Listen.
Attention: The Superpower No One Teaches You
Your attention is under siege. From your phone, your inbox, your TV, and every app with a “ding.”
But it gets worse than that. Then there's the "good distractions"...
- new employee's training
- never-ending cycle of youth sports
- church event you volunteered for
- friend's birthday on the weekend
- dinner with your boss and that client
- non-profit you are helping out with twice a month
- home improvement project you have on your to-do list
- fantasy football league/book club/whatever thing on Thursday nights
You don’t lack ambition… you lack focus.
And society is built to keep it that way.
The average person checks their phone 144 times per day. That’s not multitasking...that’s fragmentation.
Attention is the rarest and most valuable currency in the world. If you can control it, you can build anything.
Example: Spend 2 hours a day in deep work...no phone, no notifications, no tabs. That’s over 700 hours a year. That’s the difference between launching your business and still “thinking about it.”
Money: Earn It, But Then Buy Back Time
Money is the most obvious investment but most people treat it like a scoreboard instead of a tool.
First, you need it to survive. But after that? You should be using it to get more Time, Energy, and Attention back.
Hire help. Automate. Outsource. Upgrade.
Buy freedom, not flex.
Example: You spend $200/month on takeout because you’re “too tired to cook.” Instead, spend $300/month on a meal prep service that gives you 5–7 hours back every week. That’s a trade worth making.
And yes...invest some of it to make more. But don’t forget: earning more without a strategy is just running faster on a treadmill.
Soul: The Missing Piece for Most High Achievers
Here’s where it all breaks down.
You’re crushing it at work. You’ve optimized your calendar. Your bank account looks fine.
But you feel… off.
That’s soul.
It’s purpose. Fulfillment. Doing things that light you up even if they don’t make money.
Without it, success feels empty. You become a high-performing robot chasing goals that don’t matter.
Example: You block off 45 minutes a day for workouts and 10 hours a week for your job. Cool. But do you make space for what makes you feel alive? Reading? Surfing? Church? Volunteering? No? That’s why it all feels pointless.
Most people get T.E.A.M. right… but forget the “S.” Then everything else starts to fall apart.
Life happens in the S. So make that first, not last...
Final Thought: You’re Always Investing… You Just Don’t Realize It
You are an investor whether you think so or not. Every day, you’re investing in something. Even if you don’t mean to.
-
You’re investing Time in distractions.
-
You’re investing Energy in drama.
-
You’re investing Attention in scrolling.
-
You’re investing Money in comfort.
-
You’re investing Soul in… nothing.
It’s no wonder you feel stuck.
